Athletes & Families

You shouldn't have to guess where you stand.

  • Is your film good enough?
  • What level can you realistically play?
  • Which schools should you contact?
  • Which camps are actually worth attending?
  • And what do college coaches need to see before they will take you seriously?

Coach Marty Martens gives football players and their families a straight answer first. Then, when there's a fit, he helps build a recruiting strategy designed to get the right coaches looking.

Timing

The earlier he sees the film, the more he can do

The athletes Coach Martens works with can start as early as freshman year. He has identified players as freshmen, started sending their film that same season, and generated real interest from it. The earlier he starts, the more of the plan is still yours to decide.

Already a junior or senior?

There is still a path, and Coach Martens is not going to pretend otherwise. He has taken on an athlete who barely played before his senior season and still got him in front of college staffs who offered. It is harder with less runway, which is the reason to send the film this week instead of next season. Send it and find out where you stand.

The film is not ready when coaches go looking

Staffs evaluate on their calendar, not yours. If the film is thin, badly cut, or buried when they finally search the name, they move to the next athlete on the list and they do not circle back.

Schools get targeted at the wrong level

Aim too high and nothing comes back at all. Aim too low and an athlete signs somewhere well under what he could have had. Both happen constantly and both are avoidable with an honest evaluation.

Coach relationships take seasons to build

A staff that has known a name for two years is the one building a class around it. Those relationships grow on their own schedule, so the sooner the first contact happens, the more it is worth by signing day.

What he does

  • Honest athlete evaluation
  • Recruiting profile and film review
  • Target school strategy
  • Camp and showcase planning
  • Coach communication guidance

What he does not do

  • Promise scholarships
  • Act as an NIL agent
  • Take every athlete who asks
  • Sell false hope
  • Run a generic recruiting factory

How it works

Three levels of support

Everyone starts at the first one. Where it goes from there depends on the athlete, the timeline, and how much the family wants to run themselves.

01

Find Out Where You Stand

Everyone starts here. Coach Martens watches the film, looks at the measurables, the academics, and the situation, and tells you what level is realistic. It is also where he decides whether he can genuinely help.

  • Film and highlight review
  • An honest evaluation of what level is realistic
  • Measurables and academics checked against what programs actually require
  • A straight yes or no on working together
02

Build Your Recruiting Plan

A plan the family can actually run. Which schools, in what order, with what message, and which camps are worth the drive and which are a registration fee.

  • A target school list built around fit, not wishful thinking
  • Recruiting profile and film rebuilt for what coaches look for first
  • A camp and showcase schedule worth the travel
  • Outreach templates and a communication plan the athlete runs himself
03

Have Coach Martens In Your Corner

He works the cycle with you. Calls get made on the athlete's behalf, the plan changes as the athlete does, and somebody who has done this for more than 15 years is on the phone when it matters.

  • Direct outreach to college staffs who know his name
  • Coach conversations on the athlete's behalf
  • Film updates and re-evaluation as the athlete develops
  • Family support through camps, visits, offers, and the decision

The evaluation is free. Everything after it is priced off your athlete.

The first step costs you nothing. Coach Martens watches the film, gives you an honest evaluation, and tells you whether he can help. If he can, the quote comes from the evaluation: where the athlete is now, how much runway is left, and how much of the work the family wants to run itself.

Sometimes the answer after an evaluation is that there is no work worth charging for. That happens, and you get told.

What they say

Marty Martens with Greg Mattison

Marty Martens was a strength coach all the years I recruited Division 1 college athletes (50). Marty was always honest about his athletes and was ahead of other coaches on which athletes were Division 1 athletes. He did a great job of letting coaches know what level they could play and what were their strong points were and what needed to be done to improve. I always trusted Marty's evaluation and reference. He has earned a great reputation as an evaluator and communicator.

Building a relationship with Coach Martens was the single most impactful thing when it came to navigating the recruiting process.

He not only has an unmatched network and connections all over the US, but more importantly I learned that he built that network by maintaining a high reputation.

As a parent, what I was the most appreciative of, was the time he spent teaching and demanding the best out of my son. It's one thing to be a good athlete, it's entirely different to learn how to conduct yourself and communicate with coaches throughout the process. The focus spent on the little things make a big difference. To this day, my son will never shake anyone's hand sitting down.

Any parent or athlete that thinks they can do it in their own just doesn't understand the complexities they will run into. Having a trusted advisor in your corner with your athletes best interest in mind is absolutely invaluable. Especially during times where truths and factual information seems tougher to find.

I can't possibly recommend working with Marty Martens enough!

I only played football my senior year in high school. Throughout the season coach Martens worked harder than anyone has ever worked for me to get me a college scholarship. Even when I thought there was no chance, Martens saw what I couldn't in me before I even did. Long hours of getting my name out to coaches and taking me on visits and never asking for anything just my best effort on and off the field. I got multiple Division 1 offers through Coach Martens and the support has not stopped to this day. Coach Martens guided me through a college transfer and now into my professional career. Coach Martens is one of, if not my most trusted mentor and advisor in Football and Life.

Questions

Before you reach out

Do you work with athletes in sports other than football?

Not right now. Coach Martens built his relationships and his evaluation eye on football, and taking on sports he cannot serve at the same level would water down what families are paying for. Football only.

Are you an NIL agent?

No. Coach Martens will explain how NIL works and what to expect from it, and he will not negotiate a deal for an athlete or take a cut of one. Agent work would compromise the relationships with college programs that make the rest of this possible.

Do you take every athlete who applies?

No. Every family starts with an evaluation, and Coach Martens turns down athletes he does not believe he can genuinely help. You get that answer early instead of a year later.

What does it cost?

The evaluation is free. After that there is no package price, because there is no package. Coach Martens quotes the work once he knows the athlete's situation, how much runway is left, and what actually needs doing.

How is this different from a recruiting service?

A recruiting service sends a profile to a mailing list and calls it done. Coach Martens watches the film, tells you what level is realistic, and talks to college staffs who know him and trust his evaluation. He also turns families down, which no subscription service does.

We already have a Hudl profile. Is that enough?

A profile only helps if the right coaches watch it and believe it. Most film sits unwatched because no staff had a reason to open it. The evaluation tells you whether the film is ready, and the plan gets it in front of programs at the right level.

Our high school coach handles recruiting. Why would we need this?

Coach Martens was a high school coach for 36 years, and he works alongside your coach rather than around them. Most high school staffs have limited time and limited college contacts. He adds the relationships and the runway, and your coach stays in the middle of it.

Not sure if it's worth asking?

Ask anyway. The evaluation is free, and it exists so families get a real answer instead of guessing. Coach Martens would rather tell you the truth early than let a year go by.
